ACH's Karan Staten Named 2007 Nutrition Ambassador Finalist
Nestlé Nutrition Institute recognizes dietitians for exceptional commitment and innovative ideas
GLENDALE, Calif.—Karan Staten, Arkansas Children's Hospital was named a runner-up in the 2007 Nutrition Ambassador Program by the Nestlé Nutrition Institute.

The Nutrition Ambassador Program recognizes professionals in the field of nutritional science who clearly demonstrate an exceptional commitment to clinical nutrition and its practical application. Registered dietitians with more than three years of clinical experience and an emphasis in pediatrics or nutritional support were invited to apply for the Nutrition Ambassador Program Scholarship.

Applicants were asked to submit an essay describing how nutrition support practice could be improved over the next five to seven years. Ten finalists were then selected and invited to Nestlé Nutrition’s headquarters in Glendale, Calif. to present their essays to a panel of judges that included last year’s winners, Jessie Pavlinac, MS, RD, CSR, LD, Clinical Nutrition Manager, Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore., and Young Hee Kim, MS, RD, LDN, CNSD, Clinical Nutrition Manager, Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Mass.

The Nestlé Nutrition Institute, in conjunction with the Dietitians in Nutrition Support Dietetic Practice Group, will provide her with a full scholarship and travel to the Dietitians in Nutrition Support Workshop in Rhode Island.

“Nestlé’s efforts to provide education and emphasis on developing products that are scientifically sound are commendable,” said Ms. Staten. “I was amazed at their presence in nutrition worldwide.”

“In Karan Staten the judges saw a real passion and energy for the future of her profession,” said Scott Teresi, RD, Innovation Manager of Nestlé Nutrition. “It was inspiring to meet such a forward-thinking clinician.”
