The training is called “We Can! Energize Our Families Parent Program”. We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children's Activity & Nutrition) is a national movement designed to give parents, caregivers, and entire communities a way to help children 8 to 13 years old stay at a healthy weight. According to the website : “Each session of the Parent Program uses hands-on activities to help parents learn skills to help their family members and others make more nutritious food choices, become more physically active, and reduce screen time. The lessons also cover specific topics like energy balance and calorie needs, the body mass index (BMI), physical activity guidelines, and ways to limit TV and video use, among others.”

The training is organized into 9 chapters ranging from 5-20 minutes in length with a total running time of approximately 2 hours. There are Flash audio presentations for each chapter plus plain text script. You can also download PowerPoint slides of the training.

On this site are numerous links for resources about weight control, physical activity and ways to decrease “screen time” plus other helpful tools for the professional.

Until next time, let ArDA help you stretch your dollars a little further!
